From the Principal

Term 4 value: Responsibility
Being responsible means that others can depend on you.
When you are responsible, you keep your agreements.
Responsibility is the ability to respond ably.
It is a sign of growing up.

Dear parents

Sincere thanks to all the parents and other family members who assisted at the year 6 camp last week.  It was a great success and the children had a superb time.  It is not possible to run these events without your support.  It is hugely appreciated by us all.  The year 6 camp is one of the major events at our school each year and a lot of fund raising and organisation goes into it.  I would like to thank the teachers concerned also – team leader Anushka Govender, Dev Singh, Phil Duncan and Catherine MacDonald for accepting the huge responsibility that goes with providing this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Graduation Assembly for provisionally registered teachers:  Yesterday we celebrated the full teacher registration of Lena Erakovich, Angela Stonestreet and Trisha Lelei.  These teachers have completed two years’ of very successful teaching during their provisional registration period and they are now fully ticketed!  In the spirit of our PCS family, each year on this occasion, we invite the families of the teachers to school for lunch before they attend the special graduation assembly.  Once again this year it was a very special occasion for these teachers.  Our school prides itself on doing a great job of support and guidance with teachers during their provisional period.  The Ministry of Education asks schools to carry out this work and I believe that we do it extremely well.

PTA Christmas Raffle:  Thank you for your support for this year’s raffle.  It is going very well and there will be some lucky winners out there, just in time for Christmas.  Please get in touch with Joce in the office if you would like more tickets, or ask your children to see the PTA members on duty in the foyer before school each day.  Your support is hugely appreciated.

Events coming up:  We have a number of exciting events between now and the end of the year, 17 December.  Please note that school closes at 12.45pm on Thursday 17 December for the summer holidays.

PTA Disco: this Friday, 6.00 – 8.00pm:  The PTA is running the end of year disco for all students starting at 6.00pm this Friday.  We look forward to the children having a great time to celebrate the end of a super year.  Thank you to the PTA in advance for yet again supporting our school in this way.

BoT meeting:  You are welcome to attend the meeting at 5.30pm next Monday 7 December.  We will be presenting 2009 student achievement data to the BoT.

PTA Meeting:  The final PTA meeting of the year is next Monday the 7th at 7.00pm.  You are all welcome to attend.

Senior School Swimmimg:  Please join us for the senior swimming sports on Thursday 10 December at the Papatoetoe pools.  This is always an exciting event on our school sports calendar as well.

End of Year reports:  The students’ reports will be sent home on Wednesday 16 December.

Year 6 Graduation dinner and final assembly:  The dinner is on Tuesday 15 December and the final assembly at 11.30am on Thursday 17 December.

Congratulations to Joeli Filipo:  Joeli had a great time at the recent Counties Manukau Athletics championships.  His relay team won the 100 metre relay and he jumped (flew through the air, that is) 3.6 metres to win the long jump for his age group.  Well done, Joeli – your school family is proud of you!

Warmest wishes for a wonderful weekend – maybe you will be starting to enjoy the approaching festive season as we count down to Christmas and the summer holidays.

Kind regards
Marilyn Gwilliam
Principal
