5 April 2007

Dear parents/caregiver

Included with today’s newsletter is a summary of the 2006 Annual Report.  My full report will be presented to the Board at the school’s Annual Meeting on Monday 14 May.  Today’s summary for each of you is an outline of our achievements in 2006 and I am very pleased to report on a number of significant achievements in many areas.  We had a great year last year and we have started 2007 with a very inspiring first term.  We are working hard on our focus areas and our student achievement targets.  There is still a very warm feeling in the school about our 150th jubilee.  Please take your time to check out the jubilee photo displays in the office foyer and in the hall foyer.

2007 Charter/Strategic Plan:  A copy is available in the school office.  It includes our annual plan and indicates our projects for 2007.  You are all welcome to view our plan.

Staff Scholarships:  Our Board is supportive of our staff who wish to complete post graduate professional qualifications.  This year scholarships have been awarded to Rebecca Cameron, Anushka Govender and Mike Piper.  We congratulate them on their scholarships and wish them well in their studies.

PTA Disco:  Thank you so much to the PTA for the very enjoyable discos last Friday evening.  The children (and staff) really enjoyed letting their hair down.  Thank you for your organization of the evening and for giving up your time to come along and ensure that everyone had a great time.

BoT:  Please see the next section of today’s newsletter for the election results.  A special thank you to parent representatives David Frost and Robert Reeves and staff representative Anushka Govender who have stepped down from the Board.  Thank you to David who did a wonderful job in the Property portfolio and to Robert who also did a wonderful job as the Board’s Community representative on the PTA and the Community group.  Thank you to Anushka for representing the staff so well – with humour and pragmatism!

I am very pleased to welcome on to our Board new parent representatives Ian Foster and Stan Good and the staff representative Kirsty Paterson.   I know Ian, Stan and Kirsty will be wonderful trustees and we are so fortunate to have their talents, commitment and support for our school.

I am also pleased to congratulate our three former Board members who stood again and who were all duly elected.  Thank you to Teresa Bews, Ian Sloan and Caroline White who all put their names forward for a further term on our Board.  We are so fortunate to have their talents, commitment and support for our school.

You can all be assured that we have an extremely competent Board who will do a wonderful job in the governance role.  Without exception, they are all very supportive of our wonderful school, and willing to work alongside the school’s management to ensure a high quality education for all students.

Easter Holidays
I hope that you can all enjoy some special time with your special children during the holidays.  They have worked hard this term and we are seeing some very good progress.  Thank you for your ongoing support for the school and for your children’s learning.  Your input at home is really important and we appreciate your willingness to work with us.

Just a reminder that school starts again on Monday 23 April.

All the best for a wonderful Easter.

Kind regards
Marilyn Gwilliam
Principal
