From the Principal

Our term 3 value is:
Our key messages with the children are:
Duty is giving to others and giving every job your best effort
Duty is caring for our environment:  recycle, reduce and re-use

Dear parents and caregivers

I am not going to mention the weather, except to say that the children are managing to play very well during break times on our hard court areas – all 730 of them!  They have been just wonderful.

Student/Parent/Teacher conferences:  We were very pleased with the excellent turn out of parents and caregivers last week at the student conferences.  The students enjoyed sharing their best work and setting two learning goals for the remainder of the year.  Thank you for your support.  We have an open door policy at the school, so please feel free to make a follow up appointment at a mutually agreed time if you wish to discuss any matters further.

Deputy Principal Appointment:  With Associate Principal Sheila Robinson leaving at the end of the year, the BoT decided to appoint a Deputy Principal (D.P.) to start at the beginning of term 4, to ease the transition.  Following interviews held last Saturday, we have appointed Pelu Leaupepetele as our new D.P.  Pelu is a local Papatoetoe resident and he had all his schooling in the local area, also. He gained his professional qualifications at The University of Auckland.  He taught at Kedgely Intermediate for 7 years and he was a team leader there for 4 years.  He has spent the last 4 years as the Associate Principal at Panmure Bridge School.  He brings a wealth of experience in ICT and literacy and he is a talented artist in his own right as well as being very keen on sport.  I know that you will all make him welcome when he joins our large Papatoetoe Central School family on Monday 13 October.

Best wishes for a superb weekend.  There will no doubt be many eyes on the Olympic Games and a certain rugby game in Capetown early on Sunday morning – go the All Blacks!!!  All the best to the Warriors too – they are going so well!  Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards
Marilyn Gwilliam

Acrostic Poem
Go to the gym.
Yank my body onto the bar.
Massive leap in the air.
Narrow beam to walk across.
Arch your legs.
Slip on the beam.
Tumble on the floor.
I try my best.
Cling to the bar.
Such a good day.

Ballet and Modern Jazz classes:  The Dance Barre is a dance school operating in Papatoetoe for ages three and up. We have both been dancing for over 15 years, and love teaching. We offer both Ballet and Modern Jazz classes on a Tuesday night at the Guide Hall, on Guide Place (off Kolmar Road, in Papatoetoe). The students are taught movement, barre, floor, centre exercises from a prescribed syllabus. We will be putting together and performing an end of year Recital on the 6th of December from the Stables Theatre in Ellerslie.  The students will be taught a class dance later in the term and will perform this in the show.
