From the Principal

Our term 2 value is:
Being honest is being open, trustworthy and truthful.

Dear parents

Thank you to the families who came along in support of the year 3 and 6 students on Wednesday night at the performing arts concert.  The staff were thrilled with your support and we hope that you enjoyed it as much as everybody else did.

Swine Flu
As you may know, the Minister of Health has announced that in NZ we are now transitioning to a “manage it” phase in the swine flu strategy.  It is now very unlikely that schools will be advised to close if they have suspected or confirmed cases. Students or staff with flu symptoms should stay at home in line with normal practice.  I would like to thank you once again for your support in keeping your children home if they have been unwell.  This in itself has been very helpful in preventing further spread of colds and flu in our school.

The next sausage sizzle is on Friday 24 July, the first week back, next term.  The PTA has almost raised enough money for our fitness trail and this next gourmet extravaganza will help… The next school disco will be on Friday 18 September, so once again the school will rock…  Please note these dates in your diary and be ready to support our wonderful PTA.

Mid year report
Next Wednesday your child will bring home the mid year report.  You will find that the report includes standardised assessment data as well as other ratings and comments.  Please take note of the explanation of the data that is provided for you on the back of the report.  You will have the opportunity to discuss the report and gain any clarification that you might require with your child’s teacher at the parent/student/teacher conferences on Wednesday 5 August.

Incredible Science Festival
I strongly recommend the annual science festival at The University of Auckland, on Monday 6 July, at the university’s city campus.  This is the first Monday of the July holidays.  The festival is a day full of fun with interactive activities, shows and displays for primary and intermediate aged children and their families.  All events are free and there is no need to register.  For copies of the programme please call 09 373 7599 ext 88925 or email: incrediblescience@auckland.ac.nz

We have only one more week of school and then the July break.  School closes next Friday, 3 July, for 2 weeks and opens again on Monday 27 July.

All the best for the best of weekends.  Take care if you are out and about.

Kind regards
Marilyn Gwilliam
